Practice-oriented research in the context of the ageing of our society

The Institute for Applied Research on Ageing (IARA) investigates the challenges and potentials of an ageing society. It is the first competence centre at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences to specialise in applied research. Our aim is to develop innovative interdisciplinary approaches and solutions that can improve the social, health and economic situation of older people through practical research in exemplary projects. The results are made available to politics, business and civil society and are also incorporated into the practice-oriented everyday teaching at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. The reserach centre IARA is characterised by its application orientation, participative research methods and transdisciplinarity. Transdisciplinarity is achieved through the cooperation of three departments with social science, economic and technical know-how.

Concerns and goals

Regional – National – International

The Institute for Applied Research on Ageing (IARA) aims to intensify and deepen the research on ageing at the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences. In addition, we work in projects and in regional and (inter)national cooperation with a large number of external partners from politics & administration, business, science and civil society and are present in subject-specific networks.

Initiator, transfer and coordination unit

The interdisciplinary IARA team develops innovative, application-oriented research projects on the basis of social challenges and on request from project partners. In this way, IARA supports the expansion of the research and development (R&D) activities of the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences in the research field and works on relevant and concrete questions for the public and society.

Scientific findings for politics, business and civil society

Our research projects aim at application-oriented solutions. The knowledge that is developed in projects with partners from different disciplines and sectors is made available to politics, business and civil society. In scientific publications and events, the results flow into the scientific discourse.
