The Institute for Applied Research on Ageing (IARA) is a research centre of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in Austria. The objective is to address the challenges and support the opportunities of an ageing society through practical research.
The Research Centre was established on the joint initiative of the Research & Development Committee and the University Management, based on a competitive, university-wide tendering process. The task of the centre is to bundle and link research on ageing at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and to develop new, innovative projects as a result. New findings on the life situations of ageing and older people, on technical support possibilities as well as on economic framework conditions are collected, expanded, analyzed, processed and disseminated in order to be able to provide usable knowledge for politics, economy and civil society. To this end, IARA in particular promotes application-oriented research and transdisciplinary approaches.
