Research on ageing in the light of the economy and demography

Demographic developments are creating challenges on the labour market from a business and macroeconomic perspective. Apart from quantitative aspects, qualitative effects and potential recommendations for action are also in the focus of our research.

Labour market

With increasing age, individual consumer habits change as well as the demands on state benefits. Against this background, the question arises as to which goods and services are to be produced in the future or which qualifications and framework conditions are necessary for this.

Consumption

The ageing of the population or the decline in the labour force is seen as a potential threat to economic growth. What economic policy measures can be taken to counteract this, or what growth potential exists in “ageing” regions?

Macroeconomy

The population development is decisively influenced by immigration and emigration. What challenges and opportunities does this create for the state, the economy and society? What framework conditions are needed for positive development?

Migration
